Birmingham New Street
- Project: Birmingham New Street Gateway
- Client: Network Rail
- Architect: Atkins
- Project Value: £3.2M
Constructed in 1967, Birmingham New Street handles in excess of 140,000 passengers every day, more than double the amount of passengers it was designed to accommodate. The redevelopment of New Street Station is now underway, being carried out by Network Rail alongside Mace who has been appointed as delivery partner on the £600m scheme. The project is backed by Network Rail, Birmingham City Council, Advantage West Midlands, Centro and the Department for Transport.
New Street sits at the heart of Birmingham City Council’s city master plan – it will open up and reconnect the north and south sides of the city centre and in doing so the project will play a large part in regenerating Birmingham City centre and creating thousands of jobs.
Fireclad has been appointed to carry out the dry lining works and internal finishes to the atrium. Our order value at appointment is £3.2m and works are being carried out over two phases – phase one is due to be completed April 2013 with phase two being completed 2015. Our scope includes partition walls, shaftwall systems, design and construction of the bulkhead and beam encasement to the atrium steel as well as fire barriers and fire stopping. Specialist finishes included Sto Render, polished plaster, Perlata finish and various other decorative finishes.
